Patients 'Dive' Into Bangkok Hospital's Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Center

Bangkok Hospital has recently established a hyperbaric oxygen therapy center, designed to help patients with a wide range of conditions heal faster and obtain better health outcomes.

Bangkok Hospital recently established a Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Center at the hospital with their existing hyperbaric chamber. The center provides specialized knowledge, highly trained staff and streamlined treatment for patients.

Hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy is most often associated with the treatment of decompression sickness. However, it is also used for several common conditions, including:
- Burns treatment
- Carbon monoxide poisoning
- Gas gangrene
- Assisting healing in problem wounds
- Exceptional blood loss where transfusion is not possible
- Necrotizing soft tissue infections
- Healing for skin grafts
- Radiation injury

HBO may also be prescribed to treat common conditions such as stroke, migraines and Lyme Disease.

In hyperbaric therapy, oxygen is forced into the bloodstream at around three times the normal pressure of the atmosphere. Oxygen is concentrated in the blood at 20 times the normal level. This reduces swelling, speeds wound healing and helps new blood vessels form. Anaerobic bacteria will also die.

The new HBO center will make the treatment of dive-related decompression sickness patients especially easy. Around 500,000 people visit Thailand each year for diving purposes, and decompression sickness is estimated to occur in 1.7-1.9% of all dives. This is a potential 9,500 cases of decompression sickness to be treated per year in Thailand.

HBO currently costs around US$1000 when performed at hospitals in the United States. While costs will vary according to patient needs at Bangkok Hospital, most hospital packages represent a saving of anywhere from 50% to 90% off US medical treatment prices.

Chris Sharasuvana, the hospital's E-marketing manager, believes that "The HBO center will help streamline things and make beginning-to-end treatment much simpler for both physicians and patients. It is such a useful form of therapy, for so many conditions, and it is wonderful that more people will be able to utilize it".

Bangkok Hospital's New Asthma and Allergy Center Nothing to Sneeze At

Up to 100 million people in the US and UK alone are affected by asthma and allergies, and rates are increasing. In response, Bangkok Hospital has set up a specialized Asthma and Allergy Center, streamlining testing, treatment and education.

Up to 100 million people from the US and UK alone could benefit from Bangkok Hospital's new Asthma and Allergy Center, offering complete end-to-end management and potentially life-saving treatment.

The center aims to streamline the diagnosis, testing, treatment, management and education of several common allergic conditions. These include:
- asthma
- hay fever
- food allergies
- penicillin allergies
- anaphylaxis
- atopic eczema

Combined, these conditions affect over 100 million people in the US and UK alone. Symptoms suggestive of asthma are increasing at a rate of about 5% per year in the UK, with similar findings in other developed countries like Switzerland, Norway, Sweden, New Zealand, Australia, the US and Taipei. This increasing incidence is attributed to several factors, including diet, exposure to allergens, viral infections, and genetics.

Bangkok Hospital's new center will provide several care functions in a streamlined way, including:
- Testing
- Diagnosis
- Comprehensive treatment programs
- Patient information and education

There are currently 8 allergy and immunology specialists at Bangkok Hospital. Dr Apichart Valyasevi has 18 years medical experience, and nine in immunology. He is looking forward to the new clinic gaining popularity: "Allergies and asthma are often life-threatening conditions, but many people suffer with them in silence".

"People who would otherwise have simply 'tried to get by' with their condition will find easy, complete, specialized and very cost-effective treatment at the new center", Dr Valyasevi continued.

Bangkok Hospital Launches Junior Health Membership Program

Healthcare for children is recognized as vital for creating a healthy adult population. Bangkok Hospital is making healthcare for children even more affordable than the usual low-cost Thai prices, with a new Junior Chivawattana Health Discount card

Bangkok Hospital has created a new category of Health Club membership for children, the Junior Chivawattana card. The card represents a minimum saving of 14,000TB (approx US$400 at current exchange rates), and includes savings for both preventative and curative procedures.

The Chivawattana Junior Membership card entitles the holder to:
• 40% discount on in-patient room rates
• 12% discount on in- or out-patient medical expenses
• 2 free junior health checkups per year
• 10% discount on vaccines
• 5 free dental examinations per year
• 500TB off orthodontic visits (up to 4 per year)
• Plus other discounts

To compare the complimentary items in the Chivawattana Junior Membership with regular US prices:
• 5 dental examinations per year would cost US$300
• Orthodontic examinations cost around US$45
• Room rates cost an average of $212 per day in the US, and the 40%
discount for Chivawattana members is unlimited.

Studies have shown that both preventative and curative medicine is extremely important for the future health of children. Around 11.3% of children in the US are not insured, and would have to pay private costs for health care. More than 51 million school hours are lost each year in the US due to dental problems, and children without access to reasonably priced health care are less likely to have things like ear infections treated and check-ups performed, which could catch serious disease early.

Bangkok Hospital Births New Affordable Fertility Program

Couples undertaking IVF have already been shown to experience considerable marital strain. Bangkok Hospital is helping to ease the pressure with a new cut-price IVF package, which could save US patients up to 85% of the cost of treatment.

Bangkok Hospital has implemented a new cut price fertility program, which has the potential to save thousands for the 1.5% of babies worldwide that are born after IVF conception.

The new fertility package costs 80,000 Thai Baht for oocyte pick up and in-vitro fertilization (IVF). The cost can also be split into two payments, with 60,000TB payable on the day of oocyte pick up, and 20,000 on the day of fertilization. The special price is valid only until June 30, 2009.

The package includes the costs of:
• Physicians, obstetricians and anesthetists
• Nursing
• Operating and recovery room charges
• Medical supplies
• Anesthetic drugs
• Embryo culture in laboratory
• The first year of freezing, which is typically an additional charge in
Western hospitals.

The package can be undertaken through Bangkok Hospital's specialty Fertility Center, which streamlines testing, diagnosis, treatment and management of infertility, up until pregnancy occurs. If a couple is considered candidates for a less expensive or complicated type of treatment, the Fertility Center can also provide intrauterine insemination, GIFT and Zygote Intrafallopian transfers.

The fertility package is generally available at short notice - waiting times for IVF treatment can range up to several years in the US and UK.

Dr Somboon Kunathikom has been specializing in obstetrics and gynecology for the last thirty years, and has witnessed the impact that infertility can have on a couple. "Clinical depression rates for infertile women are around the same as for those undergoing cancer treatments, and we see so many couples unhappy because of the stress of infertility".

"The new low-cost IVF program should allow many more couples to experience the joy of children, which they've waited so long for", he continued.

World's Most Advanced MRI Machine Finds Home at Bangkok Hospital

Bangkok Hospital recently acquired the world's most advanced piece of imaging equipment for diagnosing and imaging heart conditions, a 256-slice CT scanner.

Bangkok Hospital recently acquired one of the world's most advanced pieces of equipment for the diagnosis and imaging of heart conditions, a 256-slice CT scanner. This machine is an upgrade to the 64-slice scanner, previously the most advanced technology available.

Bangkok Hospital is working on creating a cut-price package for the 256-slice CT multi-detector. While the details are not currently finalized, current packages at the hospital usually represent savings of between 50% and 95% over comparable procedures in the US. Please contact Bangkok Heart Hospital for the details at info ( @ ) bangkokhospital dot com dot

The 256-slice scanner, such as Bangkok Hospital now has, was in prototype stage as recently as 2006. The system is most widely used for cardiac imaging, but can also be used for other large organ imaging, such as liver, brain and lung imaging.

The advantages of the new 256-slice system over lower slice-count machines include:
1. Extremely high image quality and picture clarity
2. Medication for reducing the heart rate prior to test is not required
3. Radiation exposure to the client is clinically proven to be lower
4. Use of contrast media is minimized
5. Patients who previously could not undergo the test because of tachycardia, severe renal failure, cardiac arrhythmia, contrast media and/or seafood allergy are not precluded from 256-slice tests

Dr Kitipan Visudharom the director of the Bangkok Heart Hospital – one of the four hospitals that make up the Bangkok Hospital campus, is looking forward to helping a high volume of patients with the new package and machine. "Heart disease is one of the most common conditions that bring people to Bangkok Hospital. We should be able to save thousands of people significant amounts of money, and greatly improve their health outcomes also with this new technology and package".

New Option for Early Stage Breast Cancer Patients at Bangkok Hospital

Bangkok Hospital has recently implemented a streamlined program aimed at helping conserve patients' own tissue for early stage breast cancer patients. It is expected to allow up to 30% of cancer patients to keep their own breasts.

Wattanosoth Cancer Hospital - one of the four hospitals that make up the Bangkok Hospital campus, a top Thailand cancer center, is helping improve women's self-image, prospect of breastfeeding, sexual functioning and lifestyle preservation after breast cancer with a new breast conserving therapy program.

The Breast Conserving Therapy Program provides a structured treatment path for early stage breast cancer patients that is geared towards breast conserving therapy and reducing the need for Thai cosmetic surgery. The procedure basics are:
1. Condition history is determined, examination and initial consult performed
2. Digital mammogram or ultrasound is requested, if necessary
3. Excision, biopsy or FNA pathology performed if necessary
4. If the tests reveal early stage breast cancer, the medical team makes its recommendations on treatment options. If the patient decides to have breast conserving surgery, she receives comprehensive information on the nature of the disease, the surgery, and after-care and self care such as proper exercise, prior to admission.
5. Heart function continues to be monitored
6. Support and education continue
7. Specialist formulates treatment plan once would begins to heal, and treatment schedule for patient is determined.

It is estimated that around 30% of patients can undergo breast conserving therapy (BCT) at no increased risk over mastectomy. Breast conserving therapy has the following advantages over mastectomy for patients:
8. Functional lactation is possible in the treated breast, for patients planning to have children
9. Patients of all ages report better body image
10. Sexual functioning is less affected
11. Emotional and social functioning are less affected
12. General disruption to life is lower with BCT

The fact that breast cancer is the most common type of cancer diagnosed at Bangkok Hospital's specialist cancer center, Wattanosoth Hospital, was the prompter for the creation of the new program.

Dr. Chajchawan Nakhakes is a medical oncology specialist at Bangkok Hospital, and is confident the program will improve outcomes for patients. "Patients undergoing BCT have so many advantages over mastectomy patients, and in many cases the medical difference is non-existent. The program makes it easier and more natural for patients to choose BCT if appropriate, and reassures them about their choice."

New Breast Lift Package at Bangkok Hospital Puts an Affordable Price on Self-Esteem

Bangkok Hospital has recently created a new breast lift package, slashing 70% off the US cost of the cost of this popular surgery. Bangkok Hospital recently launched a new cut-price package for one of their most popular Thailand cosmetic surgeries - mastopexy or breast lift surgery.

The package costs 110,000 Thai Baht, or around US$3,145 at current exchange rates. This slashes up to 70% off the cost of the surgery in the US, which can cost women up to US$11,000. The cost in Australia is up to US$5,200.

The new package includes:
1. Surgeons fee
2. Anesthesiologist's fee
3. 1 night accommodation in surgical floor and associated basic charges
4. Operating room charges
5. Medical equipment, supplies and medications
6. Anesthetic and pre-anesthetic drugs

Thousands of successful breast lifts are performed worldwide every year. Breast lift surgery makes a substantial difference to self-esteem and quality of life for many women.

As breast lift surgery is a cosmetic procedure, the costs in the US are further impacted by the fact that insurance will generally not cover the cost.

Dr. Jaturong Ninnagara is a plastic surgeon at Bangkok Hospital who completed his training over thirty years ago, and has qualifications from both Thai and Australian facilities. He says the package should help improve quality of life for more women. "Breast lift surgery can lift a patient's outlook and mood just as much as their physique. I'm glad the package will make this positive change possible for so many more women".

Bangkok Hospital Doctor Receives International Attention for His Work

The director of Bangkok Heart Hospital – one of the four hospitals that make up the Bangkok Hospital campus -, Dr.Kitipan Visudharom M.D., PhD., has received recognition for his work through an international publication. The article further raises awareness of the elite standard of doctors at the international hospital in Bangkok.

The knowledge, skills, care and expertise of Bangkok Heart Hospital's director, Dr Kitipan Visudharom, have been recognized and venerated in an international publication. This has raised awareness of the superior standard of doctors at Thai facilities in general, as well as Dr Kitipan's particular skills.

Dr Kitipan was recognized and commended in January 2009's Prestige Magazine, under the title 'On Call for Life'. The long article examines Dr Kitipan's work history, skills, and the achievements of he and his team in the seven years since he took over management of Bangkok Heart Hospital.

The article also reports glowingly on Dr Kitipan's manner, which is typical of Bangkok medical tourism facility staff - "His character is ... disarmingly mellow and soft spoken". The Minnesota Heart Institute, Dr Kitipan's previous work, is written up as a world-class facility, and the miraculous effect of his treatment on patients is recounted.

Dr Kitipan Visudharom returned to Thailand after 30 years of practicing overseas as part of a program to provide 72 free heart operations to needy patients, in honor of the 72nd birthday of Thailand's King. Dr Kitipan received his MD from Siriraj University, then did residency training in the US. He went on to gain a PhD in surgery from the University of Minnesota. He co-founded the Minnesota Heart Institute, a similar center to Bangkok Heart Hospital.

"I would like to see us be able to recruit the best doctors, as many as we can, from here and abroad, continue writing and doing advanced research and some day people will recognize Bangkok Heart Hospital as one of the world's best", says Dr Kitipan.

Bangkok Hospital Making Youth and Beauty Affordable For All

Bangkok Hospital recently announced a new face and neck lift package, making the popular cosmetic surgery affordable for those who were previously excluded.

Bangkok Hospital has announced a new cut-price face and neck lift package, at around 15% of the current cost in the US.

Bangkok Hospital Medical Center's Face and Neck Lift Package costs 120,000 TB, or around US$3,400 at current exchange rates. The price is valid from today until June 30, 2009. The package includes:
• 1 night inpatient care in the surgical floor, including room, nursing and food charges
• Operating room charges
• Necessary medical equipment, supplies and medications
• Fees for doctors and anesthesiologists

The Hospital has also begun offering a facelift (forehead) at only 100,000 TB, or around US$2,800 at current exchange rates.

The cost of a facelift in the US can be up to $25,000, and a face-and-neck lift can cost up to $29,000. Most procedures average between $6,000 and $15,000. Facelifts were the seventh-most popular cosmetic surgery procedure in 2007, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.

This package could benefit a large proportion of the 55 million cosmetic surgery patients who will be treated in the US by 2015, as estimated by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Facial cosmetic surgery has recently been scientifically proven to improve first impressions. A study presented at the 2008 Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, revealed that participants who had facial cosmetic surgery scored higher on first impression judgements for dating success, attractiveness and athleticism, than those that hadn't.

Dr. Worawat Suwanruxa and Dr. Seni Kupgan two of the plastic surgeons at Bangkok Hospital are looking forward to helping such large numbers of patients. "Our cut price packages offer amazing savings compared to US costs, and facilities are often larger and more luxurious. It simply makes sense to combine elective surgery with a vacation, in our globalized world".

Bangkok Hospital's Personal Care and Patience Strongest Characteristics, for One Patient

A Hawaiian woman treated at Bangkok Hospital in an emergency procedure recently has vowed to spread the word about the facility's outstanding service throughout the world.

Barbara Leong, who had an emergency operation on her femur at Bangkok Hospital recently, has vowed to spread the word about the hospital's excellent care and service all over the world.

Mrs Leong had an emergency femur operation at Bangkok Hospital after experiencing "the worst pain I ever endured … due to knotted tight muscles under my legs and hips", in her words.

Her stay at the hospital totaled just over a month, and in that time she came to have great respect and admiration for the doctors, physical therapy staff and nursing staff at the hospital. "I truly felt that each and every person that I came into contact with made me feel as though I was a member of their family", Mrs Leong said. She names porters, cleaning ladies, tray people, aides, therapists, patient relations staff as well as "the very caring nurses", and "of course the wonderful doctors" in her glowing appraisal of Bangkok Hospital's service.

Mrs. Leong was also amazed at the way her pain was handled, stating she had always believed that hip or leg surgery came with intense pain. She was surprised to find that her greatest problem was weakness, however she says that medical staff helped her through this: "knowing they were with me, gave me all the confidence that I was lacking".

"Thank you for the great care that I experienced personally - you may be sure that my friends and family worldwide will hear about the great Bangkok Hospital", Mrs Leong concluded in her statement.

Dr. Som-arch Wongkhomthong the director of the International Hospital, is unsurprised at Barbara's effusive reaction. "We are always delighted to hear back about such positive outcomes for patients! Our service is something we pride ourselves on, and we sometimes take it for granted that hospitals elsewhere in the world are as service-focused. Cases such as Mrs. Leong's help spread the word that Thailand is a world-class, beautiful and very cost-effective place to seek medical treatment".

Bangkok Hospital Staff Receive Personal Training From Birmingham Hip Procedure Pioneer

Bangkok Hospital was recently visited by one of the world's top orthopedic surgeons, inventor of the Birmingham Hip Resurfacing technique Mr Derek McMinn. He personally trained hospital staff in his system, among other activities.

Bangkok Hospital recently hosted Mr Derek McMinn, inventor of the Birmingham Hip Resurfacing System. Mr McMinn held teaching sessions and presentations, as well as demonstrating the technique he pioneered.

Mr McMinn "Worked with hospital staff to perfect their technique … gave presentations, held teaching sessions and performed the operation on a very grateful Thai lady", according to Dr Micheal Moreton, International Medical Coordinator at Bangkok Hospital.

The top indicator for hip replacement surgery is osteoarthritis. The Birmingham Hip Resurfacing System has several advantages over conventional hip replacements, including:
• Elimination of the traditional problem of leg lengthening
• Less invasive - No large stem to be inserted into the femur
• Eliminates the problem of hip dislocation

The procedure has been in use for over 11 years, and gained FDA approval for its use in the US in 2006.

Dr Sombat Rojviroj is the head of orthopaedic surgery at Bangkok Hospital, and was among the first surgeons from Bangkok Hospital to be trained in the Birmingham Hip technique. He has over 25 years medical experience, and over 3 years experience with the relatively new concept of hip resurfacing as opposed to replacement. "It was wonderful to watch the technique's inventor perform his own operation", enthused Dr Rojviroj. "The nurses especially gained a much greater understanding of the procedure's background and details".

Birmingham Hip Resurfacing is primarily intended for patients under 55, although fitter 50-60 year olds are also considered as candidates. Birmingham Hip Resurfacing has been performed on top athletes, including
• Floyd Landis, who went on to win the 2006 Tour de France
• Cory Foulk, who finished a marathon three months after his surgery, and came eleventh in the Ultraman world championship 14 months after the surgery
• Scott Kopperud, who was awarded a ninth-degree black belt in May 2008 after undergoing Birmingham Hip Resurfacing in 2006

Bangkok Hospital Set to Blitz Spa and Wellness Tourism as Well as Medical Tourism in 2009

Bangkok Hospital's recently revamped list of wellness and beauty treatments are making it the leader of a growing trend, as named by the foremost online spa resource, SpaFinder

Bangkok Hospital has revamped its Health and Beauty service offering, coinciding with the release of SpaFinder's Top Ten Spa Trends to Watch in 2009 naming the blending of hospitals with medical spas one of their top trends for 2009.

Bangkok Hospital recently added several new massage services to their Healthy and Beauty offering. Patients can now access several spa-type treatments in-room at Bangkok Hospital, including:
• Full body Thai massages
• Hour-long foot massages
• Therapeutic Western style massages
• Manicures and pedicures
• Hair styling services

A one hour Thai body massage costs 350THB, or around US$10 at current exchange rates. A one hour therapeutic massage, administered by a qualified physical therapist, costs 600THB or US$17 at current rates for outpatients, and 1000THB or around US$28 for in room service. Manicures and pedicures cost 100 baht in-salon, or 200 baht in-room; these costs equate to around US$2.80 or US$5.70 at current exchange rates.

SpaFinder has named the blending of medical treatment with spas and tourism as third in its list of Top Ten Spa Trends to Watch in 2009. President of SpaTrends, Susie Ellis, notes that "for 2009, whether it’s … the rise of wellness tourism or diagnostics—there’s never been more breeding going on in the spa Petri dish". This increasing combination of medical and spa services is the report's flagship prediction, and appears third in the list of top ten trends.

Bangkok Hospital fits neatly into the report's forecasts. SpaFinder advises to "watch for the line between spas, medical spas and hospitals to become ever more creatively blended", and Bangkok Hospital has been leading the trend.

Chris Sharasuvana, the hospital's e-marketing manager, believes that the spa offering is an important part of the hospital's services. "It not only helps differentiate us from Western hospitals and draw first-time patients to Bangkok Hospital, these services play an important part in the speed of recovery, positivity and mental resilience of our patients", Mr Sharasuvana noted. "We couldn't do without them", he added.

Arrhythmia Patients Can Run, Swim Again After Treatment With New Technology At Bangkok Hospital

Bangkok Hospital recently acquired a new piece of cutting-edge technology for the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias, the CartoSound Imaging System. This has the potential to help millions of people worldwide.

Bangkok Hospital recently acquired the Cartosound Imaging System for treating cardiac arrhythmia, the first of its kind in Thailand. It has the potential to save thousands of lives lost due to stroke and cardiac arrest.

The CartoSound Image Integration Module is a new system for intracardiac echocardiography, an imaging system used in the electrical treatment of heart arrhythmia. Arrhythmia is estimated to affect up to 1 in 85 people in many Western countries, with 4 million people in the US suffering recurrent arrhythmias, and 700,000 in the UK.

Benefits of Bangkok Hospital's new Cartosound system include:
• Shorter periods of ablation during electrical treatment for arrhythmia
• Lower radiation exposure levels for patients
• More accurate pinpointing of arrhythmia locations
• Real-time imaging and feedback is provided, giving surgeons more control and allowing them to be more responsive Cardiac arrhythmias are often ignored by patients, but can lead to death by stroke or cardiac arrest. Ventricular fibrillation, one form of arrhythmia, causes half of all cardiac deaths. Atrial fibrillation is a leading indicator for stroke, with 15% of all stroke patients experiencing atrial fibrillation. Atrial fibrillation can also lead to congestive heart failure.

Dr. Kitipan V.Arom, the hospital director, hopes the the new machine will encourage more arrhythmia patients to opt for treatment. "Many people believe that arrhythmia is more of an annoyance than a threat to life - yet we see it as a factor in so many hospital deaths. The Cartosound can prevent an enormous proportion of these arrhythmia deaths".

Dr David Wilber of Loyola University Medical Center, agrees that the machine is a great boon to the industry. " This unique system will improve our ability to ablate complex cardiac arrhythmias - [it will] diminish the need for detailed pre-procedure imaging studies, reduce procedure times, and facilitate accurate and effective lesion placement."

Bangkok Hospital's Million Dollar Machine Making Patients' Heart's Beat Again

Bangkok Hospital recently acquired one of the state-of-the-art da Vinci surgical systems, a robotic appendage which allows precision of movement and a lower level of invasiveness than ever seen before in heart surgery.

Bangkok Hospital recently acquired one of the sought-after da Vinci surgical system machines for minimally invasive heart surgery, providing many benefits to surgeons, hospital staff and patients.

The da Vinci surgical system is a robotic system to filter, scale and then translate a surgeon's hand movements into micro-movements of surgical instruments. This means that the restrictions of human movement can be broken through to allow heart surgery to be less invasive and more accurate than ever before. The system has achieved clearance by the US Food and Drug Administration.

Some of the benefits of the da Vinci surgical system recently acquired by Bangkok Hospital include:
• A shorter hospital stay for patients and faster outpatient recovery times
• Decreased postoperative pain
• Improved cosmetic outcomes
• Less blood loss and infection risk
• For surgeons, greater accuracy and confidence
• For hospitals, necessary surgery staff levels are lower

The system can cost around $1.5 million US dollars, making it out of reach of most Thai facilities. Bangkok Hospital is one of only 210 hospitals worldwide to have one of the cutting-edge machines.

Dr. Kitipan Visudharom, the director of the Heart Hosptial, sees the machine's acquisition as a natural part of the hospital's strategy: "We strongly believe that minimally invasive procedures are the way of the future. Yes, the da Vinci machine does represent a significant investment in infrastructure, but really we could not have gone without it."

Dr. Sujit Banyatpiyaphod is a vascular surgeon at Bangkok Hospital, and cannot wait to start working on the new da Vinci machine. "You often feel so limited by your hands as a surgeon. The da Vinci machine has so much potential, the potential of the human and the machine will combine to make a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts."

The system will be interoperable with either on-pump or off-pump coronary surgery. It can be used for mitral valve repair or replacement, ASD closure, and Bilateral IMA harvesting, among other procedures.

The new package is for gynecologic investigative laparoscopies. These are most often performed for the 10-15% of all couples who experience fertility issues.

The package is availablefor the special price of 50,000 THB, or around US$1,400 at current exchange rates. This price is valid from today until December 31, 2008.

The price of the investigative laparoscopy package includes:
• Fees for doctors and nurses
• Use of the operating room and convalescent room, as well as an inpatient room for 24 hours.

• Lab examinations
If any additional expenses are incurred, for example a longer stay is required; a 15% discount will be applied to the actual cost for the patient.

Investigative laparoscopies are required for hundreds of thousands of routine procedures every year. They are used to help determine the cause of infertility and whether an ectopic pregnancy has occurred, are used for assessing endometriosis and any other chronic pelvic pain, for peritoneal disease and also for complaints during pregnancy.

Dr. Vitoon Chinswangwatnakul and Dr. Hathai Kunaprayoon , two of the Laparoscopic surgeons at Bangkok Hospital, expects that the package will be taken up opportunistically by people stopping over in Bangkok. "The short procedure time and hospital stay, along with the fact that this is one of the most common procedures performed in a hospital, makes this a great opportunity for those who were already visiting Thailand for other reasons."

"We look forward to helping large numbers of people cut down their routine medical expenses," they continued.

Bangkok Hospital also provides similar low-cost packages for follow-up laparoscopic surgeries that may be required, including laparoscopic tubal ligation, laparoscopic minor surgery and laparoscopic assisted vaginal hysterectomy packages.
